The Doctor: But I just wondered, between you and me, in 100 words, where do you think Van Gogh rates in the history of art?

Dr Black: Well… um, big question, but to me, van Gogh is the finest painter of them all. Certainly the most popular great painter of all time. The most beloved. His command of colour, the most magnificent. (Vincent, nearby, listens silently but with growing emotion.) He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to portray, but to use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world… no one had ever done it before. Perhaps no one ever will again. To my mind that strange wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the world’s greatest artist, but also one of the greatest men who ever lived. (Vincent breaks down in tears.)The Doctor: Vincent, I’m sorry. I’m sorry, is it too much? (hugs him)Vincent: No, they are tears of joy! Thank you, sir, thank you.

My favourite episode.

Mine too. If anyone ever tries to tell me that this didn’t actually happen, there will be murder.

Oh God, “Vincent and the Doctor”…

…they just got to the museum…

…here come the tears.

“I’ve loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.” ~ Galileo Galileo

FIRST of all, it’s Galileo Galilei.
SECOND of all, I set the click-though to go to the person who ACTUALLY created this GIF, because I find it rather shitty that someone saved it, uploaded it, stuck someone else’s quote on it, decided that made it theirs and now it has 11k+ notes. (She has since deleted the post. Wonder why? I also wonder if that makes finestmoments feel any better. =/ Either way, at least my followers and I know where the credit is really due!)

fatnfab:

Here’s a version of Van Gogh’s Starry Night created using thousands of curled up strips of paper. Susan Myers used a process called paper quilling to painstakingly build up her version of the piece.

My fav painting EVER and this is a gorgous rendition !!

A friend of the family took my graduation invitation and paper quilled around it, making a simple card into a lovely, cherished gift. It hangs in my living room above my diploma. It’s one of my favorite things.
